About Us
INFORM Africa, brings together a multisectoral and multidisciplinary group of investigators with complementary expertise in data science, infectious disease epidemiology, geospatial statistics and agent-based modeling, community-wide and health surveillance systems, infectious disease medicine, immunology, mobility epidemics, bioinformatics and molecular evolution to collectively work on three related Projects and two Cores on emerging pandemics like SARS-CoV-2 and their relationship with HIV-1 in Nigeria and South Africa. This innovative research project is a collaboration between two well-established and successful non-governmental organizations, the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) and the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA), their partner universities in the United States and South Africa, as well as an industry collaborator from Zambia (AKROS).
AIM 1
To establish data streams from public and private sectors in oÍrder to understand the multilayer interactions that may explain the dynamics and impact of emerging pandemics like SARS-CoV-2, through three proposed Research Projects and two proposed Cores, supplemented by the pilot projects.
AIM 2
To develop geospatial tools for use by country leadership and governments in pandemic surveillance and response to improve preparedness.
AIM 3
To expand data science research opportunities and capacity through engagement with the broader DS-I Africa consortium and several proposed pilot projects in data science.
AIM 4
To maintain a sustained engagement with the policymakers and governments in order to promote further open access to high-quality data and the redistribution and uptake of any product/tool developed by the INFORM Africa.
